Ottoman-Russian Rivalry in South Azerbaijan during World War I and the Hiyabani Movement

The Hiyabani movement was an attempt to establish an autonomous state by Azerbaijani Turks in Iran. The leader of the movement, Hiyabani, founded the Democratic Party after the Constitutional Monarchy Revolution. This article focuses on the Hiyabani movement and the rivalries among England, Russian Empire, Ottoman Empire and İran in southern Azerbaijan during World War I. Armenians, Kurds and Assyrians (Nestorian, Syrian and Chaldean Christians) who were used both by Russia and England in southern Azerbaijan are also studied.
